Ambode breaks silence: ‘I am not working for Agbaje against Sanwo-Olu’

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, has for the umpteenth time slammed publications insinuating that he is working behind the scenes to enthrone Mr. Jimi Agbaje, PDP governorship candidate in the state, as his successor.

Ambode lost a bitter APC governorship primary election to Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, in October of 2018.

The loss would automatically cut short the governor’s second term dream.

There have been insinuations in certain quarters that Ambode has been secretly backing an opposition candidate to beat the governorship candidate of his own party, as a way of getting back at APC chieftains who denied him a second term ticket.

However, in a statement sent to Pulse by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Haruna, Ambode said he stands to gain a lot more should Sanwo-Olu succeed him.

Denials, demand for apology

“The attention of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has been drawn to a report in today’s edition of The Nation Newspaper, Friday March 1, 2019.

“Specifically, the contentious report, which was published on the newspaper’s front page without any by-line, insinuated that Governor Ambode might be working with an opposition party through a former member of the Lagos State Executive Council and Commissioner for Energy & Mineral Resources, Mr. Wale Oluwo.

“The report also attempted to hold the Governor responsible for the alleged activities of Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi because he supported the governor’s gubernatorial ambition during the primaries of the All Progressives Congress in October 2018″, the statement read.

Ambode is also demanding a retraction and apology from the Nation newspaper.
