Emergency Call Centre – LAGOS – President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday unveiled the new National Broadband Plan (2020-2025).
The President also commissioned three other projects executed by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and agencies under it.
According to Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, “The plan, essentially, is intended to deepen internet penetration in the country. We cannot talk about the digital economy without addressing the broadband penetration issue and this is the reason we unveiled the new national broadband policy.”
Aside from the launching and unveiling the broadband plan for 2020-2025, other projects the President commissioned include, Communication and Digital Economy Complex, Emergency Communications Centre, Abuja, established By NCC, National Emergency Toll-Free Number and National Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training.

The National Emergency Call Centre is expected to link Abuja residents with the Police, fire service, federal road safety officials, during an emergency. The emergency number, 112, is toll-free.
The Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, which is in charge of the project, said it is working to link the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to the call centre, in light of the coronavirus outbreak sweeping through the world.
The Digital Nigeria program is designed to equip young Nigerians with digital and entrepreneurial skills, according to Pantami.
